What It's Like Being Blind

This page is intended for sighted folks who haven't been blind.

Blind people will find this page borring, because they already know that being blind is just that, being blind. For you sighted folks, being blind is what you would call normal to us. Being blind for us is exactly like being sighted for you in the sense that we don't notice anything wrong with us every minute of every day. No matter how hard it is to believe, when you live with a condition all your life, or if you learn to live with a condition partway through your life, the problem becomes less noticeable until your condition becomes normal to you. This is absolutely true for people who have been blind for their entire lives. We don't know anything other than being blind, so it is just like having sight, except we don't have the extra sense. It's hard to describe, so you can contact me if you still don't understand.
